The play for this group: The French Lieutenant’s Woman
The original novel is so wide ranging and complex, even Harold Pinter may not have completely done justice to this story written from a twentieth century perspective about the morality of a scandalous love affair set in the 1870s. Charles brings disgrace to his aristocratic family and despair to his wealthy betrothed Augustina when he falls hopelessly in love with Sarah, the femme fatale of Lyme Regis!
A Message from the organiser Chris Gill
For some years, people have gathered at the Marine Theatre to read through plays of all kinds and we want to continue this tradition in 2023. We are setting up a monthly reading on the second Monday of each month and the first three represent a wide range of ideas from new plays to Shakespeare. If you want to get involved, either as an active reader or just to listen to others, get yourself a free ticket. This will guarantee you a place and also provide you with an e-version of the play we will be reading so you can make your decision about how you want to contribute.
We are keen to encourage anyone interested in drama to participate. If you have any ideas about do readings of future plays, please contact Chris Gill through the Marine Theatre by emailing office@marinetheatre.com
