Eat & Sleep

Visitors to the Marine often ask us for the best place for a meal or to stay. These are our recommendations: the best Lyme Regis has to offer.

HIX Oyster & Fish House

Ticket holders can enjoy 10% off their bill at HIX Oyster & Fish House before or after any show. The Lyme Regis restaurant is run by our patron, Mark Hix.

Perched on the hillside offering panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast, HIX Oyster & Fish House offers a stunning and intimate setting to enjoy locally sourced fish and seafood. A large terrace, ideal for cocktails or al fresco dining in the summer, wraps around the informal, light and airy dining room with floor to ceiling windows. It’s quite simply the most picturesque spot in Dorset—apart from the Marine.

The menus are built around the long-established, personal relationships that Mark Hix has with local suppliers and use only responsibly produced, carefully sourced and simply served British seasonal ingredients.

CONDITIONS:

HIX Townhouse

Located a short walk from HIX Oyster & Fish House, HIX Townhouse features eight luxury double rooms, personally designed by local chef and restaurateur Mark Hix, all individually themed around his passions. Stay in the ground floor Hunting Suite or Garden room—or head upstairs to the Sailing room and enjoy the sun on the terrace with views of the sea. Mark has also collaborated with artists and designers and local producers for the Donovan, Temperley, and Mad Hatters rooms. There’s something for everyone at this Georgian Townhouse, located just minutes walk from the Marine and beach.

Every morning a freshly made HIX Hamper will be delivered to your room featuring home-made sweet and savoury goodies, locally produced cereal and fresh fruit. A communal kitchen is available to guests at all times to make toast, and top up on hot and cold drinks. A mini bar features in each room with Black Cow Vodka, Salcombe gin, Tonnix wine and a selection of local soft drinks and snacks. All guests are welcome to enjoy a dining discount at HIX Oyster & Fish House when staying at HIX Townhouse.

Lewesdon

Julia and David look forward to welcoming you to Lewesdon. They offer a comfortable and memorable stay in their elegant home.

They have lovingly restored this Edwardian house into an adults only luxury B&B offering three large, individually designed bedrooms with king size or super king size beds, all with modern amenities, whilst maintaining the elegance of the period features. Ample parking is available along with use of their extensive garden. They give guests a holiday experience which is relaxing and restorative, with a ‘home from home’ feel.

The Royal Lion Hotel

Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and an open fire help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.

Privately owned and managed, The Royal Lion Hotel has gained a reputation for its friendly service, first class cuisine and impressive leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. There is a private car park and wifi is available in the lounges throughout the hotel. The Royal Lion Hotel prides itself on its dining facilities, offering a variety of options. The best dining option is The Oak Room Restaurant—an elegant and sumptuous dining room serving a blend of classic dishes and modern cuisine.

Old Monmouth

This is a Tudor townhouse with a colourful past. It’s all here: The Duke of Monmouth, Oscar Wilde, and a box of love letters found after WWII American soldiers stayed.

Tony and Alex have loved discovering the history and bringing this old house back to life. They’re a creative, immensely likeable pair and their vintage finds from French trips abound. Bedrooms are romantic with lavender-scented drawers, tea trays, perhaps an antique gilt mirror, Liberty wallpaper or flame-pink cushion. There’s a summery breakfast room, wood fires burning bright all winter and orchids in every corner.

Greenhill House

Perched on a western hillside in Lyme Regis, and overlooking Lyme Bay with breathtaking views of the Jurassic Coast, Greenhill has three beautiful bedrooms decorated with a touch of the 1930s.

Room One has a king size bed, a small balcony with sea views and an ensuite which has a shower over a double ended bath.

Room Two has a king size bed with two large sash windows facing the garden with views across Lyme Bay, the ensuite has a freestanding bateau bath in front of French Windows facing the sea.

Room Three has a king size bed with two large sash windows facing the garden with views across Lyme Bay, the ensuite has a freestanding claw-foot bath with a shower over.
