Places to stay and eat

Visitors to the Marine often ask us for the best place for a meal or to stay. These are our recommendations: the best Lyme Regis has to offer.

The Oyster & Fish House

10% discount on your bill*

Perched on the hillside offering panoramic views of The Cobb and Jurassic Coast, The Oyster & Fish House is arguably the most picturesque spot in Dorset to enjoy locally sourced fish and seafood from local chef and restaurateur Mark Hix. A large terrace wraps around the informal, light and airy dining room with floor to ceiling windows offering a view from every angle. Our newly built dog-friendly deck sits to the side of the restaurant with tables and counter tops to enjoy lunch and dinner, or just a seasonal cocktail and Dorset oysters.

Just a short walk through the gardens, The Oyster & Fish House is the perfect spot for a pre- or post-theatre meal.

Lyme Bay Cafe Bar

10% discount on dinner bookings*

Right next door to the Marine, The Lyme Bay Café & Bar has superb panoramic views looking out over the bay, with views down to the Cobb Harbour and along the world famous Jurassic coastline.

Come and relax on their sun-drenched terrace or enjoy the breath-taking sea views from inside the stylish Café interior with floor-to-ceiling windows and décor – which showcases simplicity and clean lines with natural materials combined with hints of industrial vintage elements for a modern feel.

Julia and David look forward to welcoming you to Lewesdon. They offer a comfortable and memorable stay in their elegant home.

They have lovingly restored this Edwardian house into an adults only luxury B&B offering three large, individually designed bedrooms with king size or super king size beds, all with modern amenities, whilst maintaining the elegance of the period features. Ample parking is available along with use of their extensive garden. They give guests a holiday experience which is relaxing and restorative, with a ‘home from home’ feel.

The Royal Lion Hotel

Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and an open fire help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.

Privately owned and managed, The Royal Lion Hotel has gained a reputation for its friendly service, first class cuisine and impressive leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. There is a private car park and wifi is available in the lounges throughout the hotel. The Royal Lion Hotel prides itself on its dining facilities, offering a variety of options. The best dining option is The Oak Room Restaurant—an elegant and sumptuous dining room serving a blend of classic dishes and modern cuisine.

Old Monmouth

This is a Tudor townhouse with a colourful past. It’s all here: The Duke of Monmouth, Oscar Wilde, and a box of love letters found after WWII American soldiers stayed.

Tony and Alex have loved discovering the history and bringing this old house back to life. They’re a creative, immensely likeable pair and their vintage finds from French trips abound. Bedrooms are romantic with lavender-scented drawers, tea trays, perhaps an antique gilt mirror, Liberty wallpaper or flame-pink cushion. There’s a summery breakfast room, wood fires burning bright all winter and orchids in every corner.

Greenhill House

Perched on a western hillside in Lyme Regis, and overlooking Lyme Bay with breathtaking views of the Jurassic Coast, Greenhill has three beautiful bedrooms decorated with a touch of the 1930s.

Room One has a king size bed, a small balcony with sea views and an ensuite which has a shower over a double ended bath.

Room Two has a king size bed with two large sash windows facing the garden with views across Lyme Bay, the ensuite has a freestanding bateau bath in front of French Windows facing the sea.

Room Three has a king size bed with two large sash windows facing the garden with views across Lyme Bay, the ensuite has a freestanding claw-foot bath with a shower over.

Dorset House

This is a unique sanctuary by the sea. We nurture and nourish our guests, creating every opportunity for them to relax and reconnect, with the emphasis on luxury and locality.

Lyn & Jason renovated the run down Regency building creating a contemporary boutique B&B with five individually designed rooms, most with sea views.

The aim at Dorset House is to encourage relaxation with the welcoming Honesty Bar, and luxury decor. Our breakfast is sourced locally and imaginatively hand prepared using organic produce where possible.

Dorset House has many accolades: in the Sunday Times Top 10 B&Bs, Gold by Visit Dorset for ‘Best B&B in Dorset’ for 3 years, Best B&B by Taste in the West, and Gold by Green Tourism for its sustainable eco credentials.
