The play for this group: The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde

So many wonderful roles to play in this timeless, witty piece. It’s the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim only to love men called Ernest. Oh, and there may be the odd mention of a handbag!

A Message from the organiser Chris Gill

For some years, people have gathered at the Marine Theatre to read through plays of all kinds and we want to continue this tradition in 2023. We are setting up a monthly reading on the second Monday of each month and the first three represent a wide range of ideas from new plays to Shakespeare. If you want to get involved, either as an active reader or just to listen to others, get yourself a free ticket. This will guarantee you a place and also provide you with an e-version of the play we will be reading so you can make your decision about how you want to contribute.

We are keen to encourage anyone interested in drama to participate. If you have any ideas about do readings of future plays, please contact Chris Gill through the Marine Theatre by emailing office@marinetheatre.com
