The French Lieutenant’s Woman, by Mark Healy
We hope to put this play on for a full run at the Marine Theatre in February 2026, and this is
a good chance to start looking at the challenges of resurrecting Mark Healy’s 2006 stage
adaptation of the famous John Fowles novel. Anyone interested in auditioning for the play
itself should come along to this if they can.
A Message from the organiser Chris Gill
We have now been running play readings once a month at the Marine Theatre for over two
years! The Theatre continues kindly to provide the venue free to support community drama.
We have a small group of regular attenders and we are always pleased to welcome new
people, whether they want to read or just listen. The selection for January to March includes
the play Dear Brutus, which we had to postpone from October last year. We are also giving
the Mark Healy adaptation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman an outing and experimenting
with a new play in March. If you want to go on our circulation list or have any questions
about the meetings, please contact Chris Gill through the Marine Theatre.
Please note all the coming readings take place on the second Monday evening of each
month. Please remember to bring with you a paper or screen copy of the script if you wish to read.
