Adapted for the stage by Mark Healy, this faithful yet inventive telling of the story blends Jane’s own life with that of her heroine, Anne.
Sir Walter Elliot demands advantageous love matches for his three daughters, and Anne’s choice of the poor naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, simply won’t do, so she was persuaded to give him up. It is now seven years later; their father’s arrogance has plunged the Elliots into debt, and they are forced to rent out their beloved estate to Admiral Croft – brother-in-law to the now-fêted Captain Wentworth. Anne has never loved another, and never married – will meeting him again be a torment or a delight?
Jane Austen was born on 16th December 1775 and died on 18th July 1817 at the age of 41 from an unknown cause. Mark Healy has worked extensively in theatre and television as an actor and writer, and his adaptations have been performed all over the world.
