A brilliant comedy that borders on farce. Part of our Summer Season of Plays, bringing rep theatre back to the Marine. For three weeks in August, you can enjoy a company of experienced actors bringing you popular plays, each one a great evening’s entertainment. Get a season ticket for all three plays and save money.

Set in a crumbling, three-storey Victorian house that was once a brothel (and still said to be haunted by a murdered prostitute), and over the course of one hectic night and morning, this comedy has lots of running up and down stairs and in and out of rooms, mistaken letters and mistaken identities, with all the characters immersed in their personal problems, leading to much hilarious confusion.

Roly is planning to buy the run-down house he’s currently renting. He says he’s doing it for his wife, but she’s thinking of leaving him. Her brother has his own problems, with a fiancée who left him at the altar. Add in the builder who currently owns but badly needs to sell the house, and the tongue-tied solicitor who’s supposed to be finalising the deal, plus a large helping of Alan Ayckbourn’s comic truthfulness and you have a brilliant comedy that borders on farce.

Alan Ayckbourn has written 90 full-length plays and is one of the world’s most-performed living playwrights. His works are mostly comedies satirising middle-class manners, and this is no exception.

Running from:
