“Snazzback…Great!”-

Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music)

New wave dancefloor instrumentalists, Snazzback, were initially born from busking on the streets of Bristol. Creating music out in all weathers has given them a playful and carefree sound that reflects the lifeblood of the city. In fact, you may remember seeing them “busk” at Jazz Jurassica back in 2018!

“An explosive sense of energy…buzzing and fizzing with fresh ideas”

Clash Magazine

Over time the line-up has settled into a 7-piece ensemble. Their influences are rooted in hip-hop, rumba, jazz, ambient and dubstep which surface in their live performances and improvisations. It’s an exhilarating and energetic danceable cocktail.

Listening to their music, you can hear black American dance music, whether “jazz” or hip hop. It incorporates African rhythms, rootsy Brazilian flavours, sprawling soundscapes and deep dubstep basslines. It’s also flavoured with electronica and hypnotic rock, rooted in Bristol’s musical history. They are most likely to be compared to Nubyian Twist (who they’ve supported on tour), Pyjaen, and Joe Armon-Jones.

Snazzback’s electrifying chemistry wows audiences wherever they perform. They’ve played at Ronnie Scott’s, Glastonbury, Boomtown and Shambala. Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Jamie Cullum lend their heavyweight support.

The band have so far written two albums together. ‘In The Place’, Snazzback’s second album, released on Worm Discs in July 2021 is vivid, inventive and fizzing with energy. See Worm Discs for more.
