Written by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe, Every Brilliant Thing has become a beloved production since its premiere over a decade ago. It has been staged worldwide and was recently staged in London, performed by a variety of leading actors.
This amateur version, directed by Margie Barbour and starring Romla Walker, has played to packed audiences locally, and we are delighted that it is coming to the Marine.
‘One of the funniest plays you’ll ever see about depression’
The Guardian

As Margie Barbour explains, her brother’s suicide, aged 17, changed her whole family’s life, and so she knows first hand the impact of suicide.
‘This play is life affirming and shows the healing power of connection. From when I first came across it I have wanted to find an opportunity to direct it.’
Last year, Romla raised money for James’s Place, a suicide charity whose work drew her to this project. She is thrilled to be highlighting such vital issues in such a powerful way.
At it’s heart, Every Brilliant Thing is a play about living with depression. It’s less about the idea that the list actually ‘works’ than that it is a way of communicating love and care between those who struggle to talk about the pain they’re going through; that some things can only be addressed obliquely. ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ is above all a communal endeavour.
‘Loved it, one of the most moving pieces of theatre I’ve ever witnessed.’ – Audience review
‘It was sensational. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s a privilege to watch.’ – Audience review
