On Sunday 15th February, we were honoured to welcome Sir Derek Jacobi and Richard Clifford to the Marine for a special evening of conversation in aid of our community and artistic programme here at the theatre.
Derek is an icon of stage and screen. Known for his work at the Royal National Theatre, he has a BAFTA, Olivier, Emmy, Screen Guild, Tony Award, and knighthood. He has starred in countless Shakespearean productions and appeared on our screens in notable works such as ‘I, Claudius’, ‘Gladiator I’ and ‘Gladiator II’, ‘Last Tango in Halifax’, ‘The Crown’, and ‘The Kings Speech’.

It was a truly wonderful event. From listening to stories about Sir Derek’s early days as an actor, to getting a behind the scenes peek into some of his most iconic roles, the evening was packed with incredible insights.
Sir Derek and Richard’s generosity will help support our Marine Youth Theatre, youth training programmes such as our recent Young Technicians course, our in-house theatre productions, and the continued development of our summer rep season with Gilroy Theatre.
As a charity, this support means a huge amount to us and is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to Sir Derek and Richard, and to all who came. It was delightful to see yet another packed house after the sell-out success of ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ earlier on in the week.
