Blending the historic with the innovative, Lí Ban reimagine genres, stories and sounds from their ancient counties. Delving into Irish mythology and traditions with a revived energy, their most recent release, Rud Nach Léir, spans four different generations of musicians and singers. It remembers old and creates new aspects of traditions from Lough Neagh and the Bann in the ancient province of Ulster in Ireland.

The name Lí Ban is the spirit of the lough itself. Lí Ban, the ‘most radiant of women’, was the legendary mermaid of Lough Neagh.

Ríoghnach Connolly is a professional vocalist, flautist, lyricist, workshop facilitator, and musical activist. She grew up surrounded by a rich musical familial heritage. Now based in Manchester, she has toured internationally and extensively, performing and recording with bands such as The Breath (Real World Records), HoneyFeet (Stardust Works), Band of Burns (Órd Bán), and Afro Celt Sound System (ECC).

‘(Connolly is) A remarkable singer and flautist…who can ease from Irish traditional influences to soul.’
