Rehearsed performance of Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf? By Edward Albee
Edward Albee’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ was a theatrical masterpiece and ground breaker when it premiered in New York in 1962 and ran for two years. Subsequent productions worldwide have continued and continue. In 1967 Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton starred in the film. The play is a very black comedy that contains revealing disturbing characters with an ultimate tenderness.
Please come along to watch this rehearsed script in hand performance. It’s a free event and you won’t be called upon to do any more than sit back and enjoy!
A Message from the organiser Chris Gill
We have been running play readings once a month at the Marine Theatre since January 2023. The Theatre continues kindly to provide the venue free to support community drama. We have a small group of regular attenders and we are always pleased to welcome new people, whether they want to read or just listen. The selection for April to June includes two new plays harking back to old themes: one an adaptation of a Sherlock Holmes story, the other inspired by Noel Coward’s writings. If you want to go on our circulation list or have any questions about the meetings, please contact Chris Gill through the Marine Theatre.
Please remember to bring with you a paper or screen copy of the script if you wish to read. We are not able to provide copies.
We are departing from our usual style of reading on 26 May as this will be a rehearsed ‘script in hand’ performance of ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ directed and performed by regular members of the group. Please do come and support this free event where the bar will be open, and you won’t be called upon to do any more than sit back and enjoy!
