Jazz by the Sea – Andy Nowak Trio

Sunday 29 March 2026

Drawing on influences ranging from the hard swinging Oscar Peterson through the classical inventions of Brad Mehldau to the atmospheric ideas of E.S.T., the Andy Nowak Trio play original compositions and interpretations of standards with effervescence and flair. Playing with an emphasis on joy and risk taking, pianist Andy Nowak, drummer Matt Fisher and bassist Nick Pini weave a compelling tapestry of soundscapes and lyricism at once fresh and familiar.

Since studying with Nikki Iles and Pete Churchill, acclaimed South West based Jazz pianist Andy Nowak has played with Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley, Art Themen, Simon Spillet, Clare Teal and Claire Martin to name a few. He has held jazz piano teaching positions at the prestigious Wells Cathedral School and at Clifton College, Bristol; he also runs several jazz workshops including ‘Jump Start Jazz’ ,a Bristol based workshop aimed at getting people who are curious about improvisation started.

His piano trio (also known as ANt) recorded their debut album, ‘Sorrow And The Phoenix’ in 2016 and launched it in an Arts Council supported tour of the UK, garnering national critical acclaim for the recording and live performances. A follow up album, ‘Reset’ was similarly well received.

Andy possesses a great touch on the piano, his natural grasp of rhythm, harmony and timing allows him to play instinctively; to create his own piano voice. His adroit use of space allows him time; and he seemingly never overstretches in his solos, which is a delight.

On their March tour the Andy Nowak Trio will play music from their new album ‘The Good Wolf’, a work of strikingly fresh melodic, atmospheric and creative sonority, about which top UK pianist Jason Rebello said: “Lovely compositions and inventive playing…watch out for this guy!”

“Andy’s voice as composer and player remain the directing centre of the music which retains the clarity of ideas and subtle restraint that have always been his hallmarks.” – Bristol 24/7
