“Big, Phat and Funky”
Mojo
Groove Den is the brainchild of Bristol musicians James Morton and Alex Hutchings. And when teamed with trombonist Dennis Rollins they’re in no mood to take prisoners!
James Morton
James is one of the most exciting saxophone players of his generation. He’s been touring the globe for the past 18 years with a variety of bands. Groove Den is his latest hard-hitting project, with a new album release in the offing.
He last appeared in Lyme Regis with the late great Pee Wee Ellis in 2020.
He’s worked with Fred Wesley and The New JB’s, Andy Sheppard, Cee Lo Green, Kasabian, and Roni Size. James is also a member of UK Jazz/ Hip-hop legends The Herbaliser. More on James here.
Alex Hutchings
Guitar star Alex has dazzled audiences with his dazzling playing for over a decade. He completed a 150 date world tour with Steven Wilson, culminating in 3 nights at The Royal Albert Hall.
He’s composed music for the BBC and is a YouTube sensation with almost 100.00 followers on his channel! More on Alex here.
Dennis Rollins MBE
Dennis belongs to trombone royalty in this country. His playing has helped to change perceptions of the instrument and its capabilities
He’s lent his ‘bone skills’ to an array of jazz, funk and groove personalities. These include Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, and Courtney Pine.
Like James Morton he was a close collaborator of Pee Wee Ellis. He also leads ‘Funky-Funk!’ This is an electrifying 6-piece with funky grooves, fat bass-lines and sumptuous melodies. More on Dennis here.
Other members of the group include power house drummer Francesco Mendolia (Incognito) and Swedish funk and soul maestro Anders Olinder (Glen Hughes and Pee Wee Ellis) on Hammond Organ.
