Sammy Hurden loves working in the community and has taken song-writing and vocal workshops for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s outreach education into hospitals, prisons, community centres, schools.
Her piece “The Calling” was performed by Somerset Massed Choir at the Albert Hall Youth proms, and her piece “Sous Les Pommiers” was performed for the D Day 70th celebrations in Caen, France. She wrote the music for the award-winning Ben Osborne’s “Jurassic Journey”, touring for Artsreach and Villages in Action, and Sammy also wrote arrangements and sang on PJ Harvey’s Mercury award winning album Let England Shake.
Sammy says: “My musical life has taken me into many different worlds… one day to a studio, the next to a dementia patients’ ward… I hope I can bring joy and care to every situation, whatever it may be.”
Part of the Senior Creatives project
Our aim is to actively engage with our senior community through a series of 10 artistic activities and events, encouraging inclusivity, creativity and joyful expression amongst older people, in Lyme Regis and the surrounding area. They will be a tonic of happiness after Covid-19.
The events will be documented on film, which will include interviews on the thoughts, experiences and memories of seniors (and sometimes youngers). The final event of the series will be the screening of the film at the theatre. Screenings can also be arranged to take place in participating residential homes for those that are not able to travel.
Complimentary tea and cakes will be provided.
