VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF SET TO WORK IN THE MARINE THEATRE 07.02.08 | ||||||||||
|
Lyme Regis residents will have seen that the Marine Theatre has been dark for three weeks this winter while welcome improvements have been made. These refurbishments have included back stage and on stage improvements; a new facing for the stage itself, with electric plugs being set in so the orchestras can have lights to read their scores. The side panels have been repainted by Robin Aram, one of the theatre volunteers, with an impressive attention to detail. The raffle now has a brand new cupboard and shelving with internal lighting, provided and painted by Jenny Wiles, a staunch theatre supporter.
In the bar the dark blue curtains were taken down by George Sidey and Lavinia Ferguson and re-sewn by a team consisting of Janet Moyes and Gill Steinberg with dry-cleaning support from Valerie Stuart. Work far beyond the call of duty was done by the regular theatre staff team and Jacqui Ward rolled her sleeves up too and set to with her daughter. The theatre was thrilled when over 35 people decided to come to our special training day for Front of House volunteers, as the theatre has relied on this sort of commitment and dedication from local theatre lovers in order to stay open. LymeArts Community Trust is so grateful to all concerned for all their help, and hope that the local and visiting audiences will notice the improvements. This Saturday 2 February the theatre will be full with an enthusiastic audience for Kagemusha Taiko, and on Friday 8 February the highly comic show “Moths Ate my Dr Who Scarf” will be at the Marine, a touring comedy performance by Toby Hadoke. Tickets for both shows are available from Lyme Tourist information office 01297 442138. |
