Our Fundraising

We run the Marine Theatre through the energy, passion, and loyalty of our TheatreFriends, volunteers, business partners, and supporters. Thanks to our key funders for 2017:

Thanks to £40,000 funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and the Department for Communities and Local Government in 2016 we were able to undertake a log overdue roof repair project to plug the hole in our leaky roof!

Marine Music Hall-4885

This year our amazing Fundraising Committee, sponsors and loyal volunteers helped us raise around £10,000 through a successful Art sale and Gala Dinner.

We fundraised for the theatre roof repair works through grants from the Coastal Communities Fund (£45,000) and Lyme Regis Town Council (£20,000).

We are constantly needing to make repairs on our 120 year old theatre to keep it going, and also to make sure we are progressing and beginning to use more up-to-date, sustainable and economic equipment.

Recently we’ve needed to spend the money we raised from the Fundraising events this year on the following items:

** £3200 for major drain renovation

**£500 for new curtains to replace the heavy panels that cover up the alcoves where we store the chairs

** £1700 for Electrical work in the Bar (come and have a look at the new Bar lighting!) and Emergency Lighting on the exterior stairwell (this is as part of our Fire Risk Assessment)

**£2000 for the replacement Lighting Desk. Unfortunately this key element in our working theatre packed up in the last 2 weeks, so we need to urgently buy another one.

**£500 for an up-to-date Till for the Bar – so that we can accept cards in the Bar and be much more efficient in our accounting

We also received a grant from the Theatres Trust for £5000 to redecorate the front of the theatre – we’ve repainted it, repaired the windows and doors, and spruced up the balcony.

Our Wishlist. ie.) Things we urgently need!

**£2500 to create a new office space in the current chair store. This will mean that we can use the Box Office area solely for BO during shows.

1. Source 4 profiles @£500
We are very badly off when it comes to Profiles in our inventory, 4 of these would not only take care of that, but they are very versatile lanterns and could do stage washes also.
2. A DMX Splitter @ £500 We would be able to offer this as a standard, also it would mean never having to hire it in, as we have done several times now at a cost of £150+ per show
3. DMX cable @£50 At the moment we have 1 10m length; for safety we should have at least 5 10m lengths.
4.  A proper Hazer @£1500 I include this one as an example of the type, but there are better more economic ones on the market.
5. And finally (for the moment!) tank traps. 4 or 6 of these would be very useful,for both theatre and Gigs. We would need sets of Aluminium Scaff bars to go with them, 2 and 3 metre lengths.

Last Spring saw the completion of the Marine’s roof works and the happy end to our leaky roof and soggy audiences; all of you contributed to this massive project, so many thanks for all your effort and support. But we don’t want to stop there. We want to keep moving on this upward trajectory to continue improving the theatre for all our visitors and users. The new fundraising campaign we are working on is called Makeover The Marine and I do hope you will all get involved in the campaign through upcoming events  or in any way you can.

The campaign is to fundraise to carry out an exciting capital project which will ‘makeover’ all the Front of House and audience facilities at the theatre including the following:

  • Extension of the foyer reaching to the edge of the bar balcony;
  • Brand new toilet block, with access from the new foyer, an additional female toilet and a disabled toilet;
  • Reconfiguration of Box Office, Coffee Shop and theatre office. The theatre office will move to where the current chair store is; the Coffee Shop will move into the Office; the ‘Box Office’ will be a free-standing structure in the foyer.
  • Installation of glass frontage, making the most of our wonderful views

I am currently applying to grants for around £150,000 to complete the works. We will also be holding fundraising events and campaigns throughout the year, so do get involved! If you see the words Makeover The Marine you know what it’s for – and we hope you’ll think it is as exciting as we do!

So many thanks for your continued support!
