CINEMA | TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: SULLIVAN’S TRAVELS | TUESDAY 26 MARCH

The second outing for our new regular film night — which presents iconic films from the past — features a 1940s satire about a Hollywood film director who longs to make socially relevant dramas.

He sets out on a journey of self-discovery, only to learn the value of creating laughter. Sullivan is a successful, spoiled, and naive director of fluff films, with a heart-o-gold, who decides he wants to make a film about the troubles of the downtrodden poor. Much to the chagrin of his producers, he sets off in tramp’s clothing with a single dime in his pocket to experience poverty first-hand, and gets some reality shock.

Written and directed by Preston Sturges and starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake.
