Our regular jazz night overlooking Lyme Bay from our terrace bar: Jade Gall plays Blue Note’s Stanley Turrentine
Jade Gall is a classically trained saxophonist who has studied both at Dartington and the Royal Welsh College of Music. She has also rapidly become the go-to choice for jazz, swing, soul and ska bands, including ‘The Simmertones’ who have recently had many plays on Radio 2 with their single ‘Perhaps’ which features Doris Day, and ‘Michael Campari and the Solar System’ with whom she played at Glastonbury Festival.
She will be focusing on the music of Stanley Turrentine, accompanied by Philip Clouts at the piano. Pittsburgh saxophonist Turrentine was a pioneer of the Blue Note soul jazz style, playing with many of the greats including Ray Charles, Max Roach and Jimmy Smith. He also played with his wife, Hammond organist Shirley Scott, on such recordings as Soul Shoutin’ and The Soul Is Willing.
