COMEDY | ADELE IS YOUNGER THAN US | SATURDAY 21 JULY

Winner of the Musical Comedy Awards 2018 and VAULT Comedy Award 2017

S&K Adele 49

Adele Is Younger Than Us is the culmination of years of optimistic frustration wedged into an hour of musical stand-up. Watch as Sally and Rhiannon emerge from the cocoon of long and painful adolescence into the world of womanhood, only to realise they weren’t Adele-like butterflies at all. They were moths. Stiff and Kitsch will take you on a journey through the trials and tribulations of love, with all the heartbreak but none of the Grammys like Adele. You’ve all been there, that shattering realisation that you are not a multi award winning, global record breaking pop superstar – and not only that, but you’re also actually older than Adele.

Join them in their attempt to find a man, fall in love and Set Fire To The Rain*

*Disclaimer: They won’t be able to, they’re not Adele.

MUSIC | THE CUBAN BROTHERS | FRIDAY 24 AUGUST

Music and comedy from the festival favourites

The Cuban Brothers’ unrivalled funk soul review blends soulful music with b-boy action and riotous comedy. From humble beginnings, Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani, Kengo Sanand Domenico have built Los Hermanos Cubanos – The Cuban Brothers – into a legendary outfit that continuously sells out shows across the globe. Mike Keat (Miguel) started The Cuban Brothers after ‘watching dance music disappear’ in the mid to late 90s. His love of b-boying, Latin music and character comedy inspired him to create an irreverent music-driven show to help him showcase his burgeoning talents as a singer, MC and dancer. After enrolling Archie ‘Archerio’ Easton (a former champion b-boy and ex-Prodigy dancer), Kengo ‘Kengo San’ Oshima (a dance student and earnest wrong-man) and most recently Domenico, the four-piece has blurred historic fact and hilarious fiction with the three elements of entertainment –music, comedy and dancing –journeying on an endless foray into fun and funky action.

Not only the entertainment of choice for Elton John, Richard Branson and Robbie Williams, the band has also supported James Brown, Chuck Berry, Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, and performed with the likes of The Prodigy, Q-Tip, Chic, Roy Ayers and Jocelyn Brown, as well as touring the world in their own right. Their residency at Rob da Bank’s celebrated Sunday Best parties led to the band hosting the main stage at Bestival, with their delirious rhythms, lightning wit, and gentle ribbing of world famous artists, plus a lot of inappropriate touching, endearing them to a constant stream of new fans. Taking the contagious dynamic of their live show into the studio the band’s debut album ‘Yo Bonita!’ features guest vocals from Mica Paris, Omar Kurtis Blow, Jungle Brother Mike Gee, Yolanda Quartey (Massive Attack) and KT Tunstall.

COMEDY | LYME REGIS COMEDY CLUB WITH ANDY ASKINS | SATURDAY 15 SEPTEMBER

Star of the John Bishop show, Andy’s routine includes offbeat original comic songs and parodies.

A talented musician with a captivating voice, popular songs have been re-written and given a perverse twist to tremendous comic effect. With a wickedly dry sense of humour, Andy’s darker material is sweetened by his innocent and impish demeanour which never fails to leave audiences in the palm of his hand.

Andy appeared on The John Bishop Show at the Hackney Empire on primetime Saturday night slot on BBC One. He has performed on The Comedy Store for Comedy Central, and two series of The World Stands Up.

Andy has delighted comedy audiences as far and wide as Switzerland, Belgium, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, Dubai, Mumbai and the Caribbean. He is also a firm favourite with the Armed Forces, performing several tours on Naval ships in ports around the world, as well as Iraq, Afghanistan and the Falkland Islands.

Andy was also one of a very select group to be awarded the Afghanistan campaign medal from General Sir David Richards Chief of Defence staff in 2012 for his contributions which included several tours to soldiers operating on the frontline.

Two other comedians warm-up alongside resident compere Tom Glover in this great value night out.

COMEDY | RICHARD CARPENTER IS CLOSE TO YOU | FRIDAY 2 NOVEMBER

Matthew Floyd Jones in the sell-out hit parody of Richard Carpenter

In a world where rainy days and Mondays collide, one man’s solitary journey to find himself has only just begun…

The piano player from Frisky & Mannish plays the piano player from The Carpenters in a razor-sharp parody play about a life spent playing the piano.

Richard used to be on top of the world, to the left of (and slightly behind) Karen. Now he’s back with a vengeance, only to find out it’s not exactly yesterday once more anymore.

DISCLAIMER: This Award-Winning Fringe hit show is not endorsed by the real Richard Carpenter.

THEATRE | NOT: LADY CHATTERLEY’S LOVER | SATURDAY 3 NOVEMBER

A laughter-filled parody of the D.H. Lawrence novel

Lady Chatterley welcomes home her husband, Clifford, from a war that has left the world in tatters. With Clifford’s legs also in tatters, he arrives at Wragby Hall confined to a wheelchair and clutching his secret.

As the couple grow apart Constance falls into a passionate, sexual and curiously experimental affair with estate gamekeeper: Mellors.

There will be long contemplative looks into the middle distance, moments of touching drama, plenty of farce and a gentle stroke of innuendo.

‘… a hilarious watch, constantly charming and remains true to the spirit of D.H. Lawrence’s work’  **** Ed Fringe Reviews
