Originally formed as an opportunity to play their shared passion of the Border, Tex-Mex and Americana music that the members of the band love, they started as a practice band playing when other musical commitments allowed- top musicians just playing for fun. Word got around as word does and soon the band started playing gigs.

At least one member of this highly respected group will be very familiar. Los Pacaminos is fronted by one of the UK’s finest and best loved vocalists – Paul Young. However, Paul is not the only luminary in this seven piece band. Some of the best musicians in the business have teamed up to present an incendiary mix of classics and original material.

Paul says – “Los Pacaminos started out just for fun, playing simply for the pleasure of it, and it just took off from there. What’s really nice is that everyone else in the band can sing too, and they do, all in their own different styles. It’s real bar room stuff, foot stompers, not too many slow songs – a real party atmosphere.”

Tex-Mex music is somewhere between the Mariachi and Norteno styles of Mexico and the Country/Blues sounds of South-West America. The band empathises with Ry Cooder, Flaco Jimenez, The Texas Tornados and Los Lobos. Mix that together with blues, rock ‘n’ roll and a hint of South American music and you have Los Pacaminos. Their set includes songs like ‘Wooly Bully’, ‘La Bamba’ and sometimes, if enough tequila is flowing, even ‘Speedy Gonzales’.

The Band members are some of the best known names in the music industry, from a variety of backgrounds. They’ve covered all kinds of music, but the unifying factor is that they all have played in Paul Young’s bands through the 80’s and 90’s. Their friendships stretch back 20 to 30 years, and it’s these long term connections that underpin the very special atmosphere generated at a Los Pacaminos show. Members of the audience are often invited onstage to join the guys in a slug of Tequila.

You’ll be in good company, so put your blues on cruise and come join the Tex-Mex party…

Back on the road again and this time celebrating the 50th anniversary, Bournemouth based Arena Theatre presents Tom Stoppard’s seminal work.  Absurd and existential, funny and plain weird, the play expands upon the exploits of the titular two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

The action takes place mainly ‘in the wings’ of the Bard’s greatest work, with brief appearances of major characters from Hamlet who enact fragments of the original’s scenes.  Always willing to explore the more challenging plays, Arena Theatre boasts Sir Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall) and playwright, Jez Butterworth  (Jerusalem, The Ferryman, Mojo) as two of their Patrons.

JRR Tolkien’s Leaf by Niggle | Friday 10 November 7.30pm

Leaf Niggle
The Marine Theatre is pleased to present the Tolkein classic play. Puppet State use intimate storytelling, object animation, music and sound to bring the story to life. The production appeals to adults, students, young adults, and children from about the age of ten.

Niggle is a painter. Not a very successful one, partly because he has so many other things to do. For some time he has been obsessed with one particular canvas – a curious picture of a tree with a vast landscape stretching out behind it. The painting keeps getting bigger and bigger, but Niggle has a journey to make …

In 1939 Tolkien was despairing of ever bringing his great work The Lord of the Rings to a conclusion. One morning he woke up with the story Leaf by Niggle complete in his mind and wrote it down. This poignant story, about an artist on a curious journey, is often seen as an allegory of the writer’s own creative process and life.

Surrounded by ladders, bicycles, easels and heirlooms, Richard Medrington (Jean from The Man Who Planted Trees) recounts Tolkien’s miniature masterpiece, with a soundtrack composed by Karine Polwart and Michael John McCarthy.

Humorous and poignant  ‘Strange Face’ celebrates life, coincidences and the legacy of singer songwriter Nick Drake.

Naz Osmanoglu with Flo and Joan | Friday 8 December| 8pm

BEST NAZ OSMANOGLU-9869

Naz Osmanoglu with Flo and Joan

The Marine is pleased to present a special double bill of acclaimed comedy from Edinburgh Festival.

Naz Osmanoglu

Naz Osmanoglu is a British comedian and – strangely – a member of the Imperial House of Osman, former ruling dynasty of the Ottoman Empire. Star of BBC3’s Live at the Electric, winner of the Amused Moose Laugh-off competition and Chortle Best Newcomer Nominee 2010, Naz Osmanoglu has hit the comedy world running. Already a fringe veteran with acclaimed sketch trio WitTank, he is now diverting his angry Anglo-Turkish energy to stand-up as well as sketch comedy.

Naz filmed Flat TV, a BBC Three series. Naz was a regular on Horrible Histories (CBBC), and was one of the stars on Laughtershock for BBC Three, a hybrid of stand up and sketch comedy.

In 2011, Naz took his first solo show 1000% Awesome to the Edinburgh Festival and returned with another show from WitTank.

“He is a name to remember, however difficult that might be. Very confident, very original and tightly performed”
Richard Herring

“Naz is a hard gigging, high performance comedy machine”
The Sun

Flo and Joan

Flo and Joan

Flo & Joan is the British musical comedy duo and is also sisters, Nicola and Rosie Dempsey.

The pair has headlined to sold-out audiences across North America and the UK including Reading and Latitude Festival.

They had a viral hit with their 2016 Song, which to date has received 46 million views. They appeared on Canadian TV comedy programme This Hour Has 22 Minutes and on BBC Radio 4’s Fresh From the Fringe.

They took their debut show Victory Flaps to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, where it was included in the Top 10 shows at the Fringe in the Amused Moose Comedy Awards. The show has since been released as an album available on Spotify and iTunes.

The Kindness of Stranglers, their 2017 show, sold out in advance and received a raft of positive reviews.
