Naz Osmanoglu with Flo and Joan | Friday 8 December| 8pm

Naz Osmanoglu with Flo and Joan

The Marine is pleased to present a special double bill of acclaimed comedy from Edinburgh Festival.

Naz Osmanoglu

Naz Osmanoglu is a British comedian and – strangely – a member of the Imperial House of Osman, former ruling dynasty of the Ottoman Empire. Star of BBC3’s Live at the Electric, winner of the Amused Moose Laugh-off competition and Chortle Best Newcomer Nominee 2010, Naz Osmanoglu has hit the comedy world running. Already a fringe veteran with acclaimed sketch trio WitTank, he is now diverting his angry Anglo-Turkish energy to stand-up as well as sketch comedy.

Naz filmed Flat TV, a BBC Three series. Naz was a regular on Horrible Histories (CBBC), and was one of the stars on Laughtershock for BBC Three, a hybrid of stand up and sketch comedy.

In 2011, Naz took his first solo show 1000% Awesome to the Edinburgh Festival and returned with another show from WitTank.

“He is a name to remember, however difficult that might be. Very confident, very original and tightly performed”
Richard Herring

“Naz is a hard gigging, high performance comedy machine”
The Sun

Flo and Joan

Flo and Joan

Flo & Joan is the British musical comedy duo and is also sisters, Nicola and Rosie Dempsey.

The pair has headlined to sold-out audiences across North America and the UK including Reading and Latitude Festival.

They had a viral hit with their 2016 Song, which to date has received 46 million views. They appeared on Canadian TV comedy programme This Hour Has 22 Minutes and on BBC Radio 4’s Fresh From the Fringe.

They took their debut show Victory Flaps to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, where it was included in the Top 10 shows at the Fringe in the Amused Moose Comedy Awards. The show has since been released as an album available on Spotify and iTunes.

The Kindness of Stranglers, their 2017 show, sold out in advance and received a raft of positive reviews.

Voices of the Sea|17 December 2017

Voices of the sea

Following a sell-out performance earlier this year, artist and boat builder Gail McGarva will again be performing her production ‘Voices of the Sea’ on Sunday 17 December at the Marine Theatre.

This unusual and atmospheric performance piece will draw you into a captivating world inhabited by characters such as the salt-ridden sailor, the lonely lighthouse keeper and the mischievous mermaid.  Devised by Gail McGarva, traditional wooden boat builder from Lyme Regis, and inspired by her love of the sea, the piece features beautiful original songs with haunting harmonies along with fragments of narrative, performed by the Sea Chorus, a group of local singers brought together especially for this project. Alongside the performance and outside the theatre, audience members can visit the Story Boat, a miniature maritime memories museum created by Gail from an upturned Dorset fishing boat from 1923.

Writer & director: Gail McGarva
Musical arrangements & direction:Penny Dunscombe

11 September – 17 December The Story Boat Project

The Story Boat project is the creation of a miniature maritime memories museum from an upturned boat in which people’s memories will be recorded and preserved.

Traditional wooden boatbuilder Gail McGarva in collaboration with local wheelwrights Rowland & Son are giving a new lease of life on land to a retired Dorset fishing boat by transforming her into enchanting oral history recording and exhibition space.

The Story Boat will be in residence outside the Marine Theatre from September to December.

The oral history collection will be archived in Lyme Regis Museum

RSC LIVE: Twelfth Night | Wednesday 14 February

A live RSC screening

‘I am all the daughters of my father’s house,
And all the brothers too.’

234296_Twelfth Night production photos_ 2017_2017_Web use (1)

Twelfth Night is a tale of unrequited love – hilarious and heartbreaking. Two twins are separated in a shipwreck, and forced to fend for themselves in a strange land. The first twin, Viola, falls in love with Orsino, who dotes on OIivia, who falls for Viola but is idolised by Malvolio. Enter Sebastian, who is the spitting image of his twin sister…

Christopher Luscombe, Director of the ‘glorious’ (Daily Telegraph) Love’s Labour’s Lost and Much Ado About Nothing (2014 and 2016), returns to the Royal Shakespeare Company to tackle Shakespeare’s greatest comedy, a brilliantly bittersweet account of “the whirligig of time”.
