WINNER OF ELIZA CARTHY COMPETITION 10/04 07

Eliza Carthy was delighted to meet the competition winner for two tickets to her concert from the Lyme and Bridport news. She presented Marlene Newnham with one of her latest CDs and told her “This has been a wonderful evening, we really love your little theatre”. Marlene Newnham really enjoyed the evening too and was thrilled with the CD so she could keep listening to Eliza’s music.

The Marine Theatre of Lyme Regis office had had so many correct entries for the Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers concert tickets that they couldn’t fit in the hat!  So the entries that had the names of Eliza Carthy’s parents as Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson had been spread across the floor, and then the Artistic Director, Margie Barbour, stood with her back to the entries, and took a small piece of paper and threw it over her shoulder. The ball of paper landed on the entry from Chideok of Mrs Marlene Newnham.

Mrs Newnham (68) had been delighted when she heard she had won the competition. “I love hearing music live” she explained “and so I decided to try my luck.  I couldn’t  believe I won.”

She went to explain that she had lived in Dorset for just three years and had fallen totally in love with it, and particularly with Lyme.  “I love anything to do with Lyme, and the theatre is lovely,” she added.

The marine Theatre had an extraordinary Easter weekend, with three very different evenings of music, each appealing to a different section of people in Lyme. They continue with some more fabulous evenings, a Classical concert on 12 April, Talon on 14th April and then a week with  “Allo Allo” from Lyme Regis Dramatic Society from 18 – 21 April. Tickets from Lyme TIC 01297 442138.
