Peter Shaffer’s recent return to the West End with Equus starring Daniel Radcliffe has heralded a resurgence of interest in this great contemporaries playwright.. Now at the Marine Theatre on Friday November 30th at 8.00 pm two of his earliest plays will be presented by the innovative company  “Creative Cow.”  Tickets are from Lyme TIC at £7.00 and £6.00 for concessions and under 16s.

This small company of professional actors, with their director Amanda Knott, collaborate to present modern classics on a quality shoestring. The company rise magnificently to the challenge of these miniature masterpieces with fine dramatic performances that move from dry humour to pathos. Set in the 1960’s, this jewel of a double bill launched the careers of Dame Maggie Smith and Kenneth Williams. Each story is a neat masterpiece, lifting the curtain on hidden lives and is told with humour and delight by this new professional theatre company. In The Private Ear the wheels of Bob’s desire for Doreen are given a good oiling by the rakish Ted. In The Public Eye we are given a dose of infidelities between a wealthy accountant, Charles, his wife, Belinda, and an eccentric private eye. Each play is told with humour and delight by Creative Cow

The Private Ear tells the story of Bob, a shy young man with a passion for classical music - opera in particular.  He invites Doreen to his bed sitter for supper where his chat up skills are put to the test. She is definitely not keen on the music, but takes a shine to laddish Ted whom Bob has brought in to help him set up the evening. What follows is both heart rending and funny. The Public Eye concerns Julian Cristoforou, an eccentric private dick.  He has been hired by Charles, a stuffy old accountant to spy on his young wife Belinda whom he believes is having an affair - which she is - after a fashion. In a startling encounter when all three meet by chance, the bizarre truth is revealed and the story turned upside down. Don't miss Creative Cow as they return to Dorset, with Peter Shaffer's cracking double bill, dealing with the knotty problem of relationships.
