POTTED POTTER COMPETITION WINNERS 25.02.08

On Sunday 24th February the Marine Theatre was full of Harrys, Hermiones and Dumbledores. The Volunteer stewards badges were all amended to include whichever House of Hogwarts they had been allocated to: from Gryffindor, to Hufflepuff , to Ravenclaw but only Margie Barbour the Artistic Director was allocated to Slytherin. The children who had come in costume were in high spirits, brandishing broomsticks, ready for a game of Quidditch - which was duly played in the theatre accompanied by great whoops of delight from the children and rather over-eager participation by the competitive dads. Jeff and Dan, the two multi talented, highly inventive and incredibly energetic devisers and performers said “We can’t wait to come back with our “Potted Pirates” show.  We love this little theatre with its audience who are really ready to join in, and its fantastic views, and" they added as they tucked into their fish and chips ”you really know how to treat actors here! Thanks!”

Competition winners at the 3.00 pm show were George Earwicker aged 8, who came as Dumbledore, and attends Symondsbury School said he had read all the books, and loved them so much he is now starting again from the first book -  Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. He really loved the theatre show and thought that when they all played Quidditch it was the best. Roya Ghabee (14) the other winner who had come all the way from Broadstone Poole said “It was very funny, I love the books and I just loved the show!” The evening show had two more winner who were also great Harry Potter fans.

This coming weekend the theatre has two contrasting shows. The Friday evening will please music fans with the performance of “Sound the Jubilee” from The New Scorpion band and on Sunday afternoon the mothers of Lyme and surrounding area are in for a treat on Mother’s Day.. “Dear Scherezade” a play based on Elizabeth Gaskell, the author of Cranford, is being performed by Gabrielle Drake at 3.00 pm. TheatreFriends are offering a cream tea afterwards in the theatre bar with a chance to meet Gabrielle Drake herself. Tickets for both events are available from the Lyme TIC 01297 442138.
