Pirates really are the new big thing, and they’re here to stay! The Marine Theatre, and was ever a theatre better placed for such a production, will resound to the cries of “Ahh, Jim Lad” on Thursday 31 July at 7.30 pm. Tickets from the TIC 01297 442138 can be had for pieces of eight or coin of the realm : £10 for adults and £7.00 for young cabin boys and girls under 16! Long John Silver and his crew of salty old sea dogs are weighing anchor at venues across the UK and Ireland in a brand new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale Treasure Island.
The play, adapted directly from the original swashbuckling novel, is performed by Quantum Theatre and promises wall to wall action as Jim Hawkins and his friends battle to recover the evil Captain Flint’s treasure before the pirates get there first. A thrilling journey with pirates, hidden treasure and of course, Long John Silver, it’s ideal for children and families. There’s live yo-ho-ho music; stories are told of buried treasure and an old long lost map. When rumours abound that an old sailor has the map there are pirates nearby to test those whispers. A rotten crew of salty dogs, under the leadership of Long John Silver, seize the map and set sail for mysterious lands in a bid to find gold and treasure. But will their plans be scuttled by a hearty young lad, Jim Hawkins? Along the way we are promised high drama, swordfights, sea shanties and of course Long John’s parrot Cap’n Flint.
This is Quantum’s third outdoor season in the UK and the company is looking forward to bringing its summer tour to Dorset. Indeed, harnessing sixteen years of experience touring schools, theatres and open-air venues Quantum’s Treasure Island promises fantastic entertainment for pirate fans of all ages. |
