MARINE THEATRE SUMMER SHOWS 24.07.08

Marine Theatre set for a Summer of Music

Music loving holiday makers staying  in the UK for their summer holidays will find a wealth of delightful choices of entertainment at the Marine Theatre Lyme Regis with Ga Ga, My Generation, the Who tribute band, Ellingtonia and Whole Lotta Led.

Ga Ga are performing on August 7th, tickets £12 in advance, £14 on the door from Lyme TIC 01297 442138. From playing at the International Queen Convention to appearing in a recent BBC documentary, GA GA continue to prove why they are so highly rated by critics and audiences alike. “Superb” was what Brian May said of them after hearing them play “Radio Ga Ga” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites The Dust,”  “Killer Queen,” “Don't Stop Me Now,” “ We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions.” There are no wigs, no make-up and definitely no false moustaches but instead a host of massive Queen songs played like they were meant to be. The Official Queen Fan Club called them “Stunning!”  which they are!

My Generation on Friday 15th August are returning to their enthusiastic audience, who said of them last time –“These Kids are Alright!” They are a group of extremely accomplished professional rock musicians that have built up the current brilliant WHO show which includes all the classics you would want to hear from Tommy, Quadraphenia, Who’s Next & The Who Live At Leeds including: Baba o riley, Pinball Wizard, Young Man Blues, The Real Me, 5:15, Who Are You & Won’t Get Fooled Again, with hits from the 60’s inc: My Generation, Pictures of Lily, Substitute, I Can’t Explain & The Kids Are Alright. They are enjoying great success with this show performing in venues & festivals throughout the U.K. MY GENERATION are not just another a look-a-like band, (although Gary Charman bears an uncanny resemblance to Roger Daltrey), there are no white boiler suits & fringe jackets etc; the music has always been the main focus. They have taken all the “WHO” classics & firmly put their own individual stamp on them with original arrangements & medleys, their efforts gaining a lot of respect throughout the music industry. It’s obvious to everyone that the band really enjoy performing together, this show has real Power & Energy, Light & Shade, culminating in an awesome Bass & Drum solo, closing the night on a real high!

Creating a very different atmosphere the theatre will become the centre of flashing heels and clicking castanets on Saturday August 16th when Luna Flamenca move in. At 7pm tapas and sangria will be on offer before the show at  £7.50, two tapas dishes per person plus some additional nibbles such as olives and bread, and a glass of sangria (alternative non-alcoholic drink available for U18s and others). Luna Flamenca, who were well received in 2006, make a welcome return to the Marine Theatre, bringing you the warmth and energy of an authentic Andalucian Flamenco tablao. Don’t miss this wonderful show with singing, guitar and dancing. The show starts at 8.00 pm with  tickets for the show only  at £10.00.

Whole Lotta Led - a tribute to Led Zeppelin, comes to the Marine Theatre on Friday, August 22nd. Given the thumbs-up by no less a guitar god than Jimmy Page himself, Whole Lotta led are THE Led Zeppelin tribute band. Keeping the spirit and songs of the legendary Zep alive with their unique energy and stage presence , Whole Lotta led play to over 40,000 enthusiastic fans every year. They don't try and reproduce what the classic Led Zeppelin line up looked like because for these guys it's all about the music. And what music. From six to sixty, audiences love the dedication and musicianship Whole Lotta led bring to classics like Whole Lotta love, Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song and When the Levee Breaks. Whether you’re a fan of the original Led Zeppelin or new to the sound come and be astounded by the music of Led Zeppelin.

On Saturday 23 August at 8.00 the theatre will see the return of Ellingtonia. This stunning nine piece band line up top musicians to present a celebration of Duke Ellington’s extraordinary music of the 1920s to the 40s. Classic songs and great swing tunes performed with great style and energy for a 21st century audience! “I’m Beginning to see the Light”, “It don’t Mean a Thing If it A’t got That Swing,” “Take the ‘A’Train”, “Mood Indigo” and “Don’t get Around Much Anymore”.
