This genteel but hilarious comedy is based on the books of E F Benson and the excellent ‘80s television series.
Placed in the elegant 1930s and in the fictional village of Tilling, based on Rye, East Sussex, this play tells the stories of two formidable ladies each of whom is determined to be the leading light of the local social scene. Whilst apparently the best of friends the wit and irony of the clever dialogue illustrate the war for social supremacy between Lucia, the extreme poseuse recently arrived in the village, and Miss Mapp, the established grande dame who tightly controls all around her. |
